Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi government by saying it had failed to fulfill the oath to uphold the constitution.

On Thursday the MIM president addressed the House during its last session before the elections and Owaisi spoke during the debate after his address.

He said, “When you have taken an oath under the Constitution how can you state that the excess land in the Babri Masjid must be given to one religion? This is violation of the Constitution.”

Owaisi remarked that the NDA government had not given importance to maintaining the composite culture of the India apart from Hindutva. Countering Modi’s statement that he acts as a chowkidar to this country he said, “Is mulk ko ayenda chowkidar ki nahi khadim ki zarurath hai (This country in the future does not require a watchman but a person who will serve the people).

The Hyderabad MP took pot shots at the NDA government’s policy on Jammu and Kashmir, by saying that because of the current Union government’s policies the youth in the state are resorting to arms.

AIMIM president lashed out at the government over the trial of the Macca Masjid blasts in 2007 and questioned why the government had not appealed against the judgment to the Court as all the accused were absolved of the crime by NIA court in 2018.

Owaisi added, “The government believes in nationalism but does not appeal in the court to find out about the people who were killed in the blast.”

Taking a jibe at the foreign policy under the NDA government, Owaisi claimed that the country had been isolated. Meanwhile, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj came forward to interrupt his claims.

Asaduddin Owaisi remarked that Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country has become an exclusive club of Brahmins and the upper castes. In another instance he questioned as to how many Dalits and Muslims have received the Bharat Ratna.
