Nandi awards not to be given away during Ugadi

Hyderabad: Like last two years, even this year Nandi awards will not be given away on Ugadi.

Post bifurcation of Telugu speaking states, the award ceremony didn't take place as the Telanagana government is waiting for the bifurcation of Film Developmnet Corporation (FDC) while AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has been postponing it.

However, one of the FDC official said that Nandi awards will happen this year but certainly not on Ugadi day.
Over the years, Nandi awards were given under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation. Although it's a custom to give out the awards on Ugadi, the awards have been given away on other occasions as well. For instance, it was organised during Dasara once, the official added.

Last time Nandi award winners' name were declared in 2011, however, the awardees were presented in 2013. The then chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy presented the awards before bifurcation.

The FCD official further said that the awards for 2012 and 2013 has not been been given yet, therefore the winners of the award for 2014 and 2015 have to wait longer to receive the award.
