Bengaluru: Metro rail passengers in the city must now shell out Rs 30 extra for baggage other than their handbags. The Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has put out notices reading — Luggage Limit - Rs 30/baggage. However, the Metro rail authorities did not specify size and weight of the luggage during the travel.
The notices that were pasted at the Metro rail station premises do not carrying the authorised signatures of the officials concerned. The notice also warns the passengers of Rs 200 penalty if they were caught traveling without a ticket. This apart, the Metro rail officials did not make any formal communication over the luggage fare.
Following the new fares on luggage, it is being felt that the move could deter commuters from using public transport and thus more number of vehicles could hit the roads.
