Nakrekal TRS MLA’s Brother Among 6 Held For Supplying Weapons To Maoists

Siddipet: Six Maoist sympathisers including Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham's brother Vemula Ramchandar were arrested while supplying weapons to the underground outfit on Monday.

Police recovered one revolver, three pistols, 49 live rounds, two magazines and 20 electronic detonators from them. The accused are, Repaka Swamy, an employee of a private firm, Basoju Narsimha Chary alias Raghu, contributor to a regional news TV channel in Suryapet, Mantoori Balanarsu, a scrap trader, Gundlapally Venkatesh and farmers Vemula Ramchander, brother of Nakrekal MLA and Ranjith Kumar.

Weapons seized by the police from the accused

Siddipet police commissioner V. Siva Kumar said the arrested men were working as couriers for Maoists from many years. He said that Swamy is the brother of one Ilaiah who died in an encounter with the police in 2004. Swamy had been working as a courier and Ranjit Kumar is the supplier of arms.

"Vemula Ramchandar had purchased a pistol from Kumar for Rs 60,000 in 2012 whereas R. Swamy recently purchased two pistols, two magazines and 39 bullets for Rs 80,000 from Kumar," a police officer said, adding that several cases are pending against Ramchandram in Nalgonda district.
