Hyderabad: A woman who delivered a baby girl about a week ago, died under mysterious circumstances at a hospital here on Sunday prompting protests by her relatives who alleged wrong treatment by the hospital authorities.
The deceased, Sravanthi (25), delivered a baby girl at Matrushri Hospital in Sadashivapeta on October 31. On November 1, doctors at the hospital suggested that she be shifted to Omni Hospital in Kukatpally as she has respiratory problems. On November 5, Omni Hospital doctors stated that her treatment has completed and she needs to be discharged. They also slapped an Rs 84,000 bill. However, prior to the discharge she was administered a vaccine following which she immediately fell unconscious and was rushed to the ICU. Around midnight the hospital authorities announced that Sravanthi died.
Alleging that the "unidentified" vaccine caused her death, Sravanthi's relatives damaged the hospital furniture and computers and also staged a dharna in front of the hospital. The hospital staff contended that the patient's respiratory problems were explained to the relatives. She died due to blood clots in respiratory system, they added. A clarification on what the vaccine was and why it was administered was, however, not forthcoming from the hospital officials.
