Hyderabad: Muthoot Finance was struck by robbers yet again on Tuesday but this time the burglars returned with empty hands. A gang of five to eight persons entered the bank at Mailardevpally around 10am and made a bid to loot after threatening the cashier. However, after an employee raised the burglary alarm crowd flocked in to their rescue and the robbers lost their nerve and fled the scene

Police after learning about the gang which was armed with weapons, roped in Telangana's anti-terrorist squad – OCTOPUS. The Special Forces after examining the CCTV footage traced down the robbers at Happy Homes apartment at Attapur.

The squad cordoned off the apartment and evacuated the residents till late midnight on Tuesday. The evacuation process was completed in the wee hours on Wednesday till 3am. Sources say that two members of the group have been nabbed but police didn’t divulge any information.

"Knives and a large empty bag has been recovered and we have taken the SUV used by the accused," ACP Gangareddy said.

Last year in December, four members were involved in a gold heist worth Rs10 crore at Muthoot office posing as CBI officials. But they were arrested with the help of CCTV footage which tracked down the black Scorpio car they traveled in. The gang leader was nabbed in Mumbai recently.
