Kakinada: Kapu reservation movement leader Mudragada Padmanabham on Thursday set December 6 as the deadline for the AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to announce his decision on this issue. In a letter written to the CM, Mudragada reminded him of his own assurance in Kakinada municipal elections that the reservations’ issue would be finalized within two months. "Our community is eagerly waiting to hear the decision on December 6, the death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar," he said.

The Kapu leader said that closer to the deadline, Chandrababu Naidu is instigating his party leaders to speak against reservations to Kapus. The statements of TDP leaders that BCs will be affected if Kapus are given reservations amounts to putting out a lame excuse.

“We never demanded a chunk out of the quota meant for BCs, which would give rise to clashes between the two social groups”, Mudragada said adding that a separate quota should be created for Kapus. He said that they were demanding reservations only for the economically backward people among Kapus. He also demanded proper categorisation of Balija, Ontari, Telaga, Kapu for streamlining the system of reservations.
