MIM lashes out at govt on fee reimbursement

Legislators belonging to the AIMIM led by Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, lashed out at Ministers Danam Nagender and Geeta Reddy on the issue of fee reimbursement  at the District Review Committee (DRC) meeting today.

The MIM legislators were clearly upset at the fee reimbursement scheme being extended to only such students who secured an EAMCET rank under 10,000 and expressed their resentment in very strong terms. The MLAs said that as per this regulation very few students from the Muslim minority would qualify. The new regulation would therefore harm the interests of the Muslim students, they said.
Akbaruddin Owaisi and the other MLAs recalled how the fee reimbursement scheme was conceived under the YSR regime to cover all segments of students and those from the Muslim minority benefited in a big way, as a result.

There were heated exchanges between the MIM group and the Congress ministers and others when the former accused Nagender of paying scant attention to the problems of the minorities. Nagender, supported by others, sought withdrawal of the remarks made against him, but the MIM MLAs stuck to their guns.
The ministers assured the MIM legislators that the matter would be taken up with the Chief Minister later and requested them to allow the meeting to continue smoothly.
