Parking Charges For Metro Rail Stations Announced

29 Dec, 2017 15:28 IST|Sakshi
Most of the Metro Rail stations do not have parking spaces and wherever space is available, traffic police are towing away vehicles saying it is legal.

Hyderabad: The parking woes of Metro Rail commuters seem to have come to an end with Metro Rail management announcing parking charges for 2-wheelers and cars at the Metro Rail stations in the city on Friday.

Metro Rail commuters were facing problems ever since the service was launched on November 28, with no one to take care of the parked vehicles. Further, the traffic police was towing away the vehicles by the time the commuters return to the station.

Now, the Metro Rail station administration will take care of the vehicles parked at the stations but for a fee. In fact, parking fee for vehicles at all the parking lots in the city was abolished by the High Court some time back. But the Metro Rail management is now charging for parking as a special case.

For bikes, the parking fee is Rs5 for the first two hours and Rs2 per hour thereafter. For cars, the fee is Rs10 for the first two hours and Rs5 per hour beyond the initial two hours.

Metro Rail authorities had earmarked parking space at 12 stations (including the two depots) at: Uppal, Parade Grounds, Paradise, Rasoolpura, Begumpet, Ameerpet, Bharatnagar, Balanagar and Kukatpally as per their plan documents in the 30-km inaugural run. It will take at least a year to have parking complexes in place at all the stations, an official said.
