YSRCP MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy has expressed doubts if Chandrababu Naidu was already tipped off about the Centre’s reluctance to award special status.

New Delhi: Finding fault with N Chandrababu Naidu for changing tack on the issue of special status issue, YSRCP MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy has expressed doubts if he was already tipped off about the Centre’s reluctance to award special status.

Speaking to the media on Monday at Parliament, Mekapti said: “During the elections, Chandrababu wanted special state status for 15 years. Now, he says it’s not a panacea for AP’s problems. The Union Finance Minister has point blank said that it was not possible to give Special Status. The people are angry and are ready to throw the BJP and the TDP into the dustbin.”

YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has appealed all sections of the society to take part in the bandh on August 2 to protest against the denial of special status for AP. The intensity of bandh will reflect the fact that how strong the people’s demand is for special status.

Mekapati further said that Naidu made several false promises during the election campaign. The number of poll-eve promises is more than 600, but he has fulfilled not even one.

“Chandrababu Naidu is changing tack over the issue. Now, he says Jaitley’s statement is painful. Both the parties BJP and TDP are non-committal on the special status for AP. Naidu is known for making false promises and resorting to double-speak as per the situation. If BJP loses elections in UP, we can’t say how long Chandrababu Naidu will continue with the NDA government. Earlier also, after completion of Vajpayee’s tenure, Naidu said it was a blunder on his part to have forged an alliance with the BJP,” pointed out Mekapati.

Ongole MP YV Subba Reddy said TDP MPs were making mischief in the House. “We’re raising slogans in the well, but TDP MPs were displaying placards, while standing at their respective place. Being part of the NDA government, what’s necessity for them to display placards. We’ll continue our fighting inside and outside the Parliament. We had moved private bill in the Lok Sabha also but don’t know whether it’ll come up this session or not,” said Subba Reddy.

YSRCP MPs disrupt Lok Sabha session, demand Special Status for AP

Further intensifying the agitation for getting Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh (AP), YSRCP MPs on Monday disrupted Lok Sabha session. MPs gave adjournment motion on the issue, and demanded for discussion on special status.

YSRCP MPs raised slogans in the well of Lok Sabha and displayed placards demanding special status for AP. Taking objection to this, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has assured MPs to speak during Zero hour. Mahajan asked YSRCP MPs not to display placards in the house. However, not satisfied with the Speaker’s assurance, MPs continued their protests.
