Hyderabad: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has rapped few private medical colleges offering PG courses in Telangana, for the non-payment of stipends to the medicos on par with the government medical colleges and also for lack of research publications.

Following are the colleges which have flouted the MCI norms - Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad (three departments), and each department from Bhaskar Medical College, Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences, both in Ranga Reddy, MNR Medical College, Sangareddy and Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar.

The MCI listed the named the colleges in its meeting held in August and the minutes of meeting were released recently.

Telangana Junior Doctors' Association President Dr G Srinivas said, "PG medicos in government colleges get monthly stipend of Rs 27,000, Rs 28,000 and Rs 30,000 for I, II and III year, adding that the scene is different in private medical colleges as colleges collect stipend from medicos three months in advance only to pay them back, as per government order."

The MCI committee noted that diploma in medical radio diagnosis (DMRD) course in Deccan College of Medical Sciences pays only Rs 18,000; Rs 19,000 and Rs 20,000 per month to I, II and III year residents which is less than that being paid by the state government. Meanwhile, medicos in MD (tuberculosis & respiratory diseases) and MD (dermatology, venereology & leprosy) from the same college are not given stipends at all.

Apart from non-payment of stipends, non-publication of research articles was another ground found by the MCI. Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranga Reddy in MDMS(Ophthalmology) and Deccan College of Medical Sciences in MD (dermatology, venereology & leprosy) didn't have a single research publication this year.

Meanwhile, from Bhaskar Medical College, Ranga Reddy two professors and an associate professor did not have a single research publication.
