Hyderabad: In an unprecedented responsiveness by the GHMC, city's roads badly waterlogged due to the record rainfall on Monday evening were cleared by Tuesday morning enabling a smooth traffic movement in most of the places.

City received 13.2cm of rainfall in just four hours' time which was a record in 17 years. Though the Met office said the rain will continue for the next

Government declared a holiday to the government offices, schools and colleges on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.

Osmania University also declared a holiday for all colleges under its jurisdiction.

At least seven people died in different incidents and the entire city was ravaged by the rain. Given the quantum of rainfall, people expected traffic disruptions due to waterlogging. Surprisingly, the roads were cleared of all rain water by the morning enabling a smooth traffic movement.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said the mansoon emergency teams pressed into action last night worked overnight to clear the rain water and drainages at nearly 100 places in the city.

A man and his son died under a collapsed house on Road No.10 in Banjara Hills and another person died of electric short circuit in Murgichowk in Old City. The GHMC announced Rs1 lakh ex-gratia for the families of the deceased.
