Mantapam in Srikalahasti temple ready to collapse?

A pillar of Ashtottara Mantapam in Srikalahasti suddenly bent to one side giving tense moments to devotees on Friday night. A large number of devotees ran out of the mantapam in fear.

Sources say that the mantapam could collapse anytime. Some stone pieces from the weakened pillar fell chipped off on Friday.

The mantapam is very important as the devotees have to pass through the mantapam to enter into the main temple.

However, the officials are saying that they would undertake repairs and that there is no danger to the mantapam.

It may be recalled that Gali Gopuram of the temple had collapsed a few years ago. Then also the officials said that there was no threat to Gali Gopuram and that it would not fall. But, it had collapsed suddenly. It took a lot of time to reconstruct it.
