Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford said he feels delighted to play for his boyhood club and draws additional motivation to put good performances for the fans. The 20-year-old left winger was born and brought up in South Manchester's Wythenshawe.

At the age of seven, Rashford joined United's football academy and went on to earn a place in the first team in 2016. After scoring twice in a sensational debut in the Europa League, Rashford also scored in his Premier League debut match in February 2016 against Arsenal.

Surprisingly, Rashford also scored important goals in his League Cup, Champions League and England debuts. In May 2016, the United player scored for England to become the youngest player in the country to hit the back of the net in hi first senior international match.

Since Jose Mourinho took charge as a manager at Manchester United, Rashford has made 97 appearances, the highest by any player in the squad.

“I wasn’t aware of it before I saw it and it’s something to be proud of,” Rashford responded on the numbers. “But we always want more and we always want to show progression individually and as a team, so the numbers don’t really matter as much as the results do to me.”

Inside United, the Manchester United’s official monthly magazine, spoke to the local player. When asked if being a local player gives him added satisfaction, he replied, “I think it does.”. “A lot of people have that dream, so you’re not only doing it for you; you’re doing it for a lot of people that you might not even know, but there are a lot of people who had the dream of playing for their local team when they were young. So I think you are playing not only for yourself and for the club, but for all the people that are living that dream through you," he added.
