Hyderabad: Apart from big movie releases the latest debate that Tollywood is rocked by is the widespread prevalence of the casting couch. It all began when a news anchor of a Telugu channel used the expression "brokers and whores" speaking to actor Posani Krishna Murali during a live debate. However, this didn't go down well with the film industry and many celebrities slammed the anchor for maligning the industry. Among them were Lakshmi Manchu, who was vocal in her condemnation of such derogatory comments demeaning women in a crass manner.
A meet was convened on this issue by the Movie Artistes Association, wherein several actors lashed out at the anchor and news channel for portraying the industry in bad light and for using such foul language. Rakul Preet Singh, Lakshmi Manchu and director Nandini Reddy strongly criticised such bad language by the anchor which they found to be highly objectionable.
However, actress Madhavi Latha countered Rakul saying that the casting couch is very much prevalent in the industry. Along with Madhavi, Sri Reddy also hit out at Rakul for denying the existence of the casting couch in the film industry.
