Hyderabad: The prelims of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination was successfully held in the city on Sunday but officials said the attendance was very low.

Incidentally, the exam took place the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the city to launch ‘Mission Bhagiratha’ in Gajwel constituency of Medak district.

“We took necessary steps to avoid any glitches to the aspirants on account of Modi’s visit to the city. We directed the police not to trouble candidates and no traffic hassles were encountered,” said an official.

Only 21,611 attended the exam out of 48,898 candidates, little over 40 percent. The exam was held in two parts; one in morning session from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and the afternoon session between 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

An in-charge of the examination cell at Hyderabad collectorate said,”We were not able to ascertain the reason for low attendance. Despite the PM’s visit to the city, we instructed police officials to allow candidates into centers after screening their hall tickets to avoid inconvenience.”
