Hyderabad: The major setback in the case of Sanjana, who sustained grievous injuries when she was hit by a car of three drunk software professionals, is the lack of alcohol test facility at Osmania General Hospital which may help the trio escape from the case of drunk driving.

Three youths Venkat Ramana, Yadi Reddy and Srinivasulu, who were involved in the car accident resulting in 6-year-old Sanjana slipping into coma and her mother suffering injuries on October 2, were already granted bail on Wednesday. They were said to be stocked up enough liquor on the previous day itself and now the lax attitude of the police also seems to help them escape from the case easily as the crucial evidence was lost.

Even if we had collected the samples, it would have been of little use. But if police want the test, we will collect the samples and send it to the Forensic Science Laboratory at Red Hills, said Mohammad Rafi, the RMO of OGH.

The Resident Medical Officer of Osmania General Hospital Mohammad Rafi said on Wednesday that the hospital is not having the facility to test the alcohol content in blood samples. Moreover the accused were brought to the hospital 24 hours after the accident.

The car damaged in the mishap

"Even if we had collected the samples, it would have been of little use. But if police want the test, we will collect the samples and send it to the Forensic Science Laboratory at Red Hills", Rafi said.

It is said that the three accused allegedly destroyed the evidence of liquor that was carried by them in the bottles mixed with water. Hayatnagar SI Narendar Goud said that right after the mishap, the trio, who escaped from the spot after ramming into Sanjana and her mother Sridevi, threw away the liquor bottles in order to destruct the evidence of drunken driving case. We collected the plastic bottle from the car in which there was leftover alcohol mixed with water.

Police also filed a case against the perpetrators under IPC Section 204 (destruction of evidence). DCP of LB Nagar Tafser Iqubal told the family members of the victims that they can lodge a written complaint if any of the three accused try to threaten them.

Sanjana's health still critical:

Meanwhile, the health condition of little Sanjana, who has been comatose for four days at Kamineni Hostpital at LB Nagar, is still said to be critical. The doctors on Wednesday released a bulletin of the condition of the girl and her mother who was said out of danger. Until the completion of 24hours time, we can't assure anything on Sanjana's health. She is put on ventilator. Presently her condition is critical. Her mother, who suffered four fractures, is now out of danger", said the doctors.
