The Holy month of Ramadan is a time of fasting and piety. The dawn to dusk fast, Roza, is broken usually with two or three dates. This is a worldwide practice followed by Muslims who consider dates as the fruit of paradise.

Muslims follow the practice adopted by Prophet Mohammad who broke his fast with dates. Several Islamic scholars also refer to Hadees (sayings of the Holy Prophet) where he speaks of the wealth of therapeutic value dates carry. The fruit which finds a mention in the Holy Quran 20 times, therefore, assumes great significance for Muslims.

Dates are a proven source of potassium, vitamins and minerals, including iron. They are considered an excellent remedy for digestive problems as well. Fibre and potassium bring down the LDL cholesterol levels and check heart-related issues. Potassium and vitamin B also aid in strengthening the nervous system.
