Forest department officials suspect that the dead leopard found on railways track between Kotakadra and Venkataiahpally was poisoned.

The leopard body was close to the area of Gaddegudem reserve forest in Mahbubnagar and officials said that leopard might have come from Mannanur Tiger Reserve which is 80 km away from the spot.

Officials said that generally people from nearby villages go to Gaddegudem reserve forest to graze their cattle.

“The leopard might have killed a goat that was out there to graze and its owner poisoned the carcass hoping that the leopard will return to feed on it. The animal might have consumed the poisoned meat,” said Mahender, forest department range officer who is investigating.
