Legalization Of Cricket Betting In India Gains Momentum
New Delhi: With an ever increasing number of cases of illegal cricket betting in the country, the Ministry of Sports is likely to take a call on legalizing the betting in India.
According to the reports, the Ministry of Sports has initiated talks informally to moot the idea of legalizing the betting in the country is in many other countries. However, Sports Minister Vijay Goel has clarified that no such proposal has been made by the Ministry yet.
The Ministry is learnt to have taken a decision to study the system in the Uniter Kingdom which has the effective gambling laws.
According to Doha-based International Centre for Sports Security, the illegal betting in India is 150 billion (Rs9.6 lakh crore) dollar business. So far, only betting on horse racing is legalized in the country.
