Leaders did not leave party for 'T' cause: Azad

Amid the uproar over Telangana Congress MPs switching their loyalties,  AICC general secretary and state affairs in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday advised the T leaders to wait till a decision is taken on the statehood issue.

He also said that a final decision is likely in the offing this month and that a series of meetings have been lined up to deliberate on the issue. They had quit the party to appease their family and not for the cause of Telangana "They quit the party for the careers of their family members and relatives. Their personal gains are more important than Telangana," he opined.

Maintaining that Centre does have Telangana on its agenda, he said that the Centre had been discussing the issue with 'T' leaders for quite some time now and a decision would be taken in this month itself. .

Azad said although the chief minister and PCC chief belonged to Seemandhra, the deputy CM was from Telangana region.

The union minister expressed hope that Congress would come back to power after the next elections.
