Lake police save 152 lives

Late on Monday night, a 22-year-old woman walked forlorn towards the Hussainsgar lake. The harassment meted out by her alcoholic husband Suresh weighed heavily on her mind. She came from Kavadiguda to take that fatal plunge into the lake hoping it would free her from all her troubles and torments.

She was fed up with the drunken ways of her husband, who suspected her fidelity and beat her regularly. She tried to jump into waters with her five year old son Saicharan and 3 year old daughter Mounika. But, the lake police acted at the nick of the moment and saved her.

They counseled her and handed over her to the Gandhinagar police.

The lake police have been doing a fabulous work saving lives and counseling depressed people with suicidal intents. The cops work round the clock and patrol the surroundings of lake. This year alone, till October 6, the lake police saved 152 lives. Of them 33 are men, while 93 are women. As many as 26 are children.

“March and June had the maximum suicide attempts. 26 in March and 22 in June. The lowest number saved was in May. We saved seven lives,” said a cop.
