Krishna River Boat Tragedy: Personal Loss To CPI Leader Narayana, 3 Relatives Drown

The Krishna river boat capsize turned out to be a great personal tragedy for CPI national leader Dr K Narayana. It left permanent scar for him as three of his close relatives perished in the boat tragedy.

Confirming this, Narayana, who rushed to the spot to console the victims, said three relatives of his wife drowned in the tragedy. All the three were women. They were part of the pilgrims who were on a pilgrimage to Pavitra Sangamam near Ibrahimpatnam.

"It is a personal tragedy for me and more so for my wife. The Government should be held responsible for the tragedy. The Government should answer as to why the passengers were overloaded during a trial run," he said.

At least 19 tourists, including nine women and two children, were killed as the boat capsized in the Krishna river on Sunday. The boat overturned at Ibrahimpatnam Ferry Ghat around 5.20 p.m. There were 41 tourists on board belonging to a private operator and returning from Bhavani Island to Pavitra Sangam, or holy confluence of Krishna and Godavari rivers.
