Kiran meets PM, Shinde over Telangana

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior Congress leaders Tuesday amid intensified consultations by the party leadership to find a solution to the Telangana issue.

The chief minister spent a busy day meeting the prime minister, union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders. He is believed to have apprised Manmohan Singh of the political situation in the state.

Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was summoned by the Congress leadership for consultations on Telangana, Monday called on party president Sonia Gandhi, and senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Digvijay Singh and Motilal Vohra.

According to Congress sources, the chief minister gave his opinion on Telangana issue and is believed to have suggested that leaders of all three regions be mentally prepared before a decision is taken on the issue.

After a two-day visit, the chief minister is returning to Hyderabad Tuesday night.
The central government has also summoned Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan for consultations on Telangana. State Congress president Botsa Satyanarayana is also likely to visit Delhi on Wednesday.

After an all-party meeting on Dec 28, Shinde had stated that a decision on Telangana would be announced in a month. However, Shinde and Azad said on Jan 28 that more time is needed for consultations before taking a final decision.

Azad is the central Congress leader in-charge of the party affairs in Andhra Pradesh.
