Khammam roads lead to Telangana Bhavan; Tummala joins TRS

Senior leader and former Minister Tummala Nageswar Rao, Khammam Zilla Parishad chairperson G Kavitha and a host of other elected public representatives officially joined TRS in the presence of party chief and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday. KCR welcomed them into the party.

Tummala and other leaders came in a long cavalcade of vehicles from Khammam to formally join the KCR's party. In a major jolt to the TDP in Telangana region, one of its stalwart leader, former minister and a key leader who influenced Khammam politics for well over 30 years, Tummala bid an adieu to the party on last Saturday.

Tummala's resignation left the TDP severely handicapped in Khammam, one of the very few districts where the TDP has some support base. Now it will be left with only Nama Nageswara Rao faction, which has been defeated fair and sqare in the recent elections.
Tummala, who was sore at his sidelining in the party, announced his resignation from the TDP and faxed his resignation letter to AP CM and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu. Along with Tummala, his large number of supporters also sent resignation letters to Chandrababu.
Khammam ZP chairman Kavitha, DCCB chairman Muvva Vijayababu, district president Konda Bala and as many as 8 sarpanches followed the suit. Sources close to Tummala say that the TDP would be all but wiped out in five of the 10 assembly constituencies in the district.
He became emotional while announcing his leaving.
Sources said that the TDP leadership is preparing ground for initiating action against the leaders who are switching loyalities. They are trying to disqualify the deserters under the Anti Defection Act. The faxed resignation letter had a single line tersely telling that he was leaving the party.
