KCR Urges Rajnath Singh To Sanction Rs1,290 Crore For Rural Development

KCR along with MPs on Thursday met Rajnath Singh and thanked him for sanctioning highway along Godavari from Koutala in Adilabad to Sarapaka in Khammam.

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhara Rao has requested Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for extending Centre’s help for rural development in the State. KCR along with MPs on Thursday met Rajnath Singh and thanked him for sanctioning highway along Godavari from Koutala in Adilabad to Sarapaka in Khammam.

KCR made a request to Rajnath Singh for sanctioning of Rs 300 crore under rural roads project for five areas in Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. KCR has also sought highway facility in interior forest villages adjoining the Godavari and the Pranahita.

According to a release from the Telangana government, KCR has identified five areas for fresh sanction of a highway in Karimnagar and Adilabad included Kaleswaram - Arujungutta, a bridge across the Godavari near Kaleswaram, Racherla-Vemanapalli highway, Somini-Gudem highway and Gudem-Babasagar highway. After meeting Rajnath Singh, KCR also met Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya seeking his intervention for release of pending Central assistance and funds to the State government. He handed over the list of proposals pending with the Centre.

The sanctioning of Rs 1,290 crore for construction of a national highway along Godavari and the Pranahita will connect Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts. Elaborating this, KCR has requested Rajnath Singh’s support in getting the approval of the works by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs.

The Centre in principle agreed on 24 highways in Maoist-influenced areas in five districts in addition to two major bridges. The pending issues in AP Reorganization Act were also part of the discussions. KCR has requested for constitutional amendment for increasing number of Assembly constituencies in Telangana.

“According to the Article 170 in Indian constitution, it’s not possible for revision in number of Assembly constituencies until 2026, but amending AP Reorganization Act, it can be done,” explains KCR. Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, CM Peshi Principal Secretary Narsing Rao, MPs Dr K Keshava Rao, AP Jitendar Reddy, G Vinodkumar and other leaders including Dr Venugopalachary accompanied KCR in the Delhi tour.
