The Telangana Government had decided to call for an special assembly session on April 16 to discuss the issue of ST and Muslim reservations and pass the bill pertaining to them.

He, however, put a caveat that since no religious reservations could be given, Muslims would be considered BC E and would be given suitable percentage. He said the issue would first be discussed on April 15 in another Cabinet meet and then the BAC would meet in the evening to set the tone for the reservations.

He said his party had promised 12 per cent reservations to Muslims and STs and would seek permission from the Centre to increase the reservation limit which now stands at 50 per cent. He said he would implement quota beyond 50 per cent as in Tamil Nadu. He reminded that several states like Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Nagaland and MIzoram have more than 50 per cent quota and states like Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were already implementing reservations to some Muslim groups.

He appealed to 'progressive thinkers' not to oppose the attempts to give reservations to Muslims. He said the State Government would soon appoint SC and ST commission at the state level.
