KCR reviews welfare and development schemes

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday reviewd various welfare schemes and directed the district collectors to act tough in protecting tank lands in rural areas from land grabbers.

He held a meeting with the collectors today to review various welfare schemes. The government has embarked on an ambitious programme of reviving the traditional public water tanks. Rao suggested that silver oak trees be planted around the tanks, an official release here said. On the state government's programme of building a water grid to provide safe drinking water through taps to every household, Rao told the collectors to construct intake-wells in reservoirs as 10 per cent of the water stock in the reservoirs is allocated for water grid. On the state government's plan for massive tree plantation initiative under 'Haritha Haram' across the state, Rao said NREGS be used for the purpose. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to protect government lands in the districts and directed the collectors to explore the possibility of constructing all government offices on a single premises for the purpose of administrative convenience. Rao also directed that the list of beneficiaries of social security pensions should be ready by December 15 while that of food security beneficiaries should be ready by December 31.
