Kashmiri Student Alleges Harassment At BITS Pilani, Leaves For Hometown

Rajasthan: Hashim Sofi, a Kashmiri student, left for his hometown in Bandipora, alleging harassment at BITS Pilani on Sunday. The 27-year-old, who works as a research project staff at the institute in Rajasthan, narrated his ordeal in his Facebook post.

The researcher informed about the incident to the chief warden of his hostel that he found objectionable comments written on his door and also offensive comments on his t-shirts. The incident took place during intervening night of April 20 and 21.

The report also carried that the scholar was not found in his quarters and left the premises without informing any officials

Reacting to the incident, the BITS Pilani release said, "The Chief Warden ensure help to the research scholar and took the matter to e Associate Dean, Students' Welfare and also enquired from hostel Superintendent and the Chief Security Officer as well. They didn't find any other such incident from any other research scholar or student from Jammu and Kashmir. Exactly what has happened is yet to be ascertained. The enquiry report of the Chief Warden was submitted to the Associate Dean, SWD."

The report also carried that the scholar was not found in his quarters and left the premises without informing any officials. Previously, on April 19 Kashmiri students studying at Mewar University in Rajasthan were beaten up. Thereafter Kashmiri students have demanded security.
