Kashmiri Pandits commemorate 25 years of exile

Commemorating 25 years of their migration, a group of Kashmiri Pandits staged a symbolic protest in Srinagar on Monday, urging the central and state governments to issue a white paper roadmapping their return to the Kashmir valley.

"We are holding a bigger protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to highlight our problems. Since we belong to Kashmir which is our homeland, we decided to hold a symbolic protest here also," Vinod Pandit said.
The chairman of the all parties migrant coordination committee (APMCC), told reporters: "It was on this day in 1990 that a forced exodus of Kashmiri Pandits began."

Monday's protest was held to commemorate 25 years of Pandits' mass migration from Kashmir valley in 1990 when separatist violence forced thousands of these people to abandon their homes.
Wearing black badges and bands as a mark of the protest at Jantar Mantar, the Kashmiri Pandits reminded the country of their travails.
Bollywood celebrities and Kashmiri Pandits Anupam Kher and Sanjay Suri have expressed solidary and support to the victims who were displaced from the Kashmir valley due to militancy 25 years ago.
Anupam, a veteran actor, changed his Twitter account's display photograph to a black one with 25YearsofKPExile written in red. He has urged his followers to do the same.
"In solidarity with Kashmiri Pandits who complete 25 years in exile today, please change your DP.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar also spoke his mind though not being from the community.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too said the BJP led government at the Centre should focus on the return of the community to their homes in the valley. "25 years is a life time. If there is a ghar wapasi, the BJP and the rest of us should really be focusing on is this one," he said.
