Kanhaiya's arrival sparks trouble in Vijayawada

Krishna: The arrival of JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar in Vijayawada city has led to a serious scuffle between the BJP and CPI cadres here, with the BJP supporters opposing his arrival and the CPI workers intent on carrying on with the event.

Kanhaiya who is out on bail with sedition allegations against him, on Thursday arrived at the Gunnavaram airport here and proceeded directly to Ivy Palace, the venue where he was to address his supporters. However certain BJP supporters who had gathered there tried to force their way into the auditorium to disrupt the event. The CPI supporters, who anticipated this, stood their ground and would not let them in.

Angry words soon turned into body blows before the police arrived on the scene and took matters into their hands. They arrested a few BJP supporters and took them away from the venue, thus clearing the way for Kanhaiya to address the audience.
