Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa is stable and is getting the best possible medical treatment, incharge Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao said.

In a statement released by the Raj Bhavan here on Saturday, he said Jayalalithaa is responding well to the treatment is well on the path to recovery. The statement said that Apollo Hospitals chairman Pratap Reddy personally briefed the Governor about the chief minister's health status. Following the formal announcement from the Raj Bhavan about Jayalalithaa's health status the tense atmosphere at the hospital eased to some extent, sources said. It may be recalled that neither the hospital nor the Raj Bhavan released any formal health bulletin since two days. Similarly, none of the AIADMK cabinet ministers spoke to the media regarding the health status of their party chief Jayalalithaa.

Earlier, the Governor arrived in Chennai and drove straight to Apollo Hospital and enquired about the chief minister's health. Meanwhile, AIADMK ministers, MLAs and people from all walks of the society gathered at the Apollo Hospital. The arrival of the Governor and all the state cabinet members created a tense atmosphere at the hospital. Consequently, there is a heavy police deployment in the area and movement of vehicles in the hospital vicinity has been restricted.
