Tragedy struck cricketer Jasprit Bumrah's family as his estranged grandfather Santokh Singh Bumrah (84) ended his life by jumping into Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad. Sources said he was vexed with his life and resorted to the extreme act.

Santokh had serious differences with his children and has been living in Jharkhand along with his eldest son Balvinder. Santokh, who was a well-to-do businessman at one time, suffered losses and got estranged from his sons. He was not on talking terms with the cricketer's family ever since his son and Jasprit's father passed away.

Till recently, Santokh lived alone in Udhamsingh Nagar of Uttar Pradesh in a single room tenement. Recently, he moved to Jharkhand. Though he was living with his eldest son, he was on his own and used to ply an autorickshaw.

Sources said on December 6, he came to Ahmedabad to greet Jasprit, who was celebrating his birthday. But, the cricketer's mother Daljit Kaur reportedly refused to allow him to meet Jasprit. Upset at the refusal, Santokh jumped into Sabarmati. His body was recovered on Sunday. Jasprit on Sunday played for India against Sri Lanka at Dharamshala.
