Jana to boycott State Formation Day fete

A Minister in the Kirankumar Reddy Government, K Jana Reddy, today announced his decision not to take part in the official function on the State Formation Day celebrations on November 1.

Protesting against the delay in taking a decision on the formation of Telangana “I did not participate in the November 1 celebrations last year. This year too I am boycotting the function,” the Minister for Panchayat Raj told mediapersons in New Delhi today. Jana Reddy is in Delhi along with some other ministers from Telangana region to meet the Congress High Command leaders to impress upon them the need to take an early decision on Telangana.

“We have already told the national leaders that any delay will cost us (the Congress) dearly. The party may lose the next elections if formation of Telangana is further delayed. Time has now come to announce the final decision on Telangana,” he said after meeting some national leaders of the Congress today.

Jana Reddy attributed the delay to lack of coordination among the leaders of the Congress and other parties from both the regions, Telangana and Seemandhra. “But the High Command has taken note of the deep desire and sentiments of the people of Telangana. The time has now come to take a final decision on the contentious issue,” he stated.

Pointing out that 30 MLAs from Telangana and 13 ministers from the region have already sent letters to the High Command informing them about an immediate need to form a separate state, he said that they have even sent their letters through fax to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

About the demand for the resignation of ministers from Telangana to mount more pressure on the High Command, Jana Reddy strongly felt that “resignations are not a solution for realizing the demand. If someone feels that Telangana will be formed if we resin from our posts, we will not wait even for a minute. Realizing Telangana state is far more important for us than clinging on to our posts,” he stated.
