Sharmila, the name is synonymous with determination. Ever since she started her 'Maro Praja Paastanam', a repeat of her father’s 1,600-km long 'Praja Prastanam' Padayatra, she's become a popular among the masses. From Day 1 of her padayatra till today which happened to be Day 188, the energy levels has been the same.

The YSRCP leader has set a target of 3,000 km and going by her progress, one can say it won't be a tough feat for a gritty woman such as Sharmila. She kicked off her foot march in style with the blessings of her father and support of the public. From then on, there was no looking back. Her family firmly believes it's the blessings of Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy and well wishers that has made Sharmila successful in her mission today.

YSR family is known for honouring their words. YSR has proved that in the past on several occasions. It is known fact that YSR promised free power supply to the farmers during his padayatra. And true to his word, YSR's first sign after coming to power was to make his word a reality. His son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who had promised to visit the families of those who sacrificed their lives after the death of YSR, did keep up his word through Odarpu Yatra even though Congress High Command strongly opposed it. Now, YSR's daughter Sharmila who promised her brother to carry on padayatra on his behalf has successfully managed to fulfill his dreams. Sharmila's padayatra, to give solace to the people, who were facing hardships crossed 2,500 km milestone on Sunday.

Sharmila began her mission from Idupulapaya, the heart of Rayalaseema region in YSR district on October 18, 2012.

First time in history, a woman has undertaken such an arduous challenge—to cover 3,000 km. YSR had covered 1000 kms during his 'Praja Prastanam' padayatra in East Godavari district. Now by covering a distance of 2,500 kms in East Godavari itself, Sharmila has surpassed her father's record. This has thrilled the party workers and the public. Many even refer to her as the Iron Lady of Andhra Pradesh. No matter the weather—scorching sun or incessant rains, Sharmila has braved them so as to accomplish her mission.

Sharmila slipped and suffered a ligament tear on her knee. This forced her to take a break from her padayatra till she fully recovered. Opposition took advantage of the situation and made every effort to tarnish the image of the party as well as Sharmila. But she gave a fitting reply to everyone by resuming her padayatra.

YSRCP leaders are erecting a lifesize statue of YSR at Kakarapalli village of Kotanandunuru mandal to mark the occasion.

A big meeting is being planned to make it a big event.
