Bhubaneswar: Indian sprinter Dutee Chand, who failed to qualify for the 100m semi-finals in the Rio Olympics, said on Saturday her timing was not to up to the mark due to which she failed to qualify.

“It was just not my moment... thanks for trusting n having faith,” tweeted Dutee. She also said that bad weather conditions also affected her performance. “I would have performed better had the event been held in the evening instead of 11 p.m. My practice time was during the evening. But the event was held at 11 p.m., which is my sleeping time,” said Dutee in an audio released to the media.

The sprinter admitted that she was nervous while on the track since it was her debut in the Olympics. She finished 7th in women’s 100m heat with a timing of 11.69 seconds. She was, however, confident that she would qualify for the next Olympics.

“This is for the first time I participated in Olympics. I learned a lot from other participants. I am happy that I performed in Olympics at the age of 20. I had less idea about the preparations and got to know about many things here. I will try my best next time,” said Dutee. Dutee Chand is a weaver’s daughter from Jajpur in Odisha.
