Imran Khan’s Faux Pas: When Germany And Japan Shared A Border….

Tehran: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan seemed to don a new role of cartographer ‘redefining’ the maps that we know of so far. Does Germany and Japan share a geographical border? Well, it doesn’t for us. But it does for Imran Khan, the new cartographer.

The Pakistani Prime Minister became the butt of jokes on Tuesday when he in a joint press conference with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran spoke of the geographical border between Germany and Japan. As those present at the event were puzzled, Imran Khan went on full throttle about the industries set up by Germany and Japan in their border region.

He brought this up to drive home a point that trade is necessary between any two countries to promote peace. Khan was, in fact, referring to Germany and France which despite being sworn enemies until the end of the Second World War buried their hatchet and set up joint industries in the border region to boost economic ties.

Imran Khan’s slip of tongue in referring to France as Japan gave enough fodder to netizens to mock him. Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was among those trolled him, and called the faux pas “embarrassing”.

Here’s the tweet:

In a video that went viral, Imran Khan can be heard saying, “The more trade you have with each other, your ties automatically become stronger. Germany and Japan killed millions of their civilians until after the Second World War they decided that...on the border, on the border region of Germany and Japan, to have joint industries."

In fact, this is not the first time Imran Khan is trolled for getting his geographical facts wrong. In December last year, he referred to Africa as an "emerging country”.

Japan and Germany don’t share any border. They are very far from each other. Japan, in fact, is an island nation and doesn’t really share its border with any country. While the Prime Minister is embarrassed big time, the trollers had their field day.
