Inter girl killed: RTC driver, bad road blamed

Pathetic state of roads and an APSRTC bus driver's negligence claimed the life of a young girl and killed her dreams.

The mishap happened on the Begumpet road in Secunderabad. The victim was pursuing her 2nd year intermediate course.  The 17-year-old girl has been identified as Riya Godiyal, a resident of Hasmathpet in Old Bowenpally area.
Reports said that Riya, along with her friend Vishal was on their way to attend a coaching class
at Begumpet.  It is learnt that Vishal who was riding a Honda Active with Riya behind lost control of the bike after it landed in a pothole on the SP road in Secunderabad.
Even as Vishal was trying to get control of the bike, an RTC bus hit the bike from behind. While Vishal escaped hurt, Riya was critically injured. Locals rushed them both to a nearby hospital where the girl lost her life while being treated. Vishal is still recovering.
Riya's family lodged a complaint against the 49M route bus driver who is in police custody now.  The police has also booked a case under Sections 304-A (Causing death due to rash or negligent act) and 337 (Causing injuries due to rash or negligent act) of the IPC against the him.
According to reports, the bus driver denied that he hit the students saying the duo fell on the road as their bike landed in the pothole. However, police suspect it was him who killed Riya.
Investigation is on and more details awaited.
