Illegal Fireworks Unit Blast Kills 3 Workers, 4 Critically Injured

Visakhapatnam: Three people including a minor were charred to death on Wednesday leaving four others injured when the raw materials used in preparation of crackers exploded in Kothapalli village here.

Inspector of Deverapalli Y Muali Rao said that firecrackers were manufactured illegally in a hut for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi.

The owner of the firecracker unit is K Nageswara Rao was also injured in the blast. Police said that Nageswara, a native of East Godavari, was also involved in such illegal activity earlier.

The deceased are Thotapalli Bujji (16), Gali Rambabu (35), and J Siva (30), while the injured have been identified as S Sankar Rao (25), K Mahesh (28), K Nageswara Rao (35), and K Surya Rao (45).

The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital and doctors said that condition of three of them is said to be critical who have suffered 95 percent of burns.
