Bengaluru: A probationary IAS officer, Preeti Gehlot, was suspended by Karnataka Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha on Saturday for chewing gum during the state government programme at Sira in Tumakuru district.
The incident took place during Sadhana Samavesha programme when the state anthem Naada Geethe was being played when the IAS officer was caught chewing gum by several media outlets. Incidentally, chief minister Siddaramaiah, district in-charge Minister TB Jayachandra, deputy commissioner, MLAs and district-level officers were present at the event. After the media outlets started airing the event, several organisations lodged a complaint with the state Chief Secretary. The latter ordered deputy commissioner KP Mohan Raj to issue a notice to Preeti Gehlot and file a report.
On Saturday, orders were issued by the Chief Secretary's office suspended Preeti Gehlot. A 2016 batch IAS officer, Preeti Gehlot, refused to comment on the incident.
