The I-T department on Monday slapped a three-page notice on mining baron and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy and sought details of all the expenses, including the source of income for his showy attire during the wedding.

Reddy’s in-laws and event managers who were signed up for various wedding-related services __ including priests, security guards and pandal suppliers are also under the I-T sleuths’s scanner.

Tax officials also inspected event managers at seven locations in Bengaluru and three in Hyderabad.

The 15-question notice was served on Reddy at his residences in Ballari and Bengaluru. The notice contains a list of items against which Reddy has to enter the amount spent.

The I-T sleuths swooped on Reddy's offices in Bellary on Monday in the wake of his blatant show of wealth at his daughter Brahmani's marriage with Hyderabad-based industrialist Rajiv Reddy on November 16. It has been rumored that the glittering wedding ceremony at the sprawling Palace Grounds in Bengaluru last Wednesday cost him anywhere between Rs500-550 crore.

The media criticised the extravagance at a time when many are struggling to find the cash to buy food following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to make 500 and 1,000 rupee notes no longer legal tender in an effort aimed at tackling tax evaders and black money.

The I-T raids were reportedly aimed at gathering information on the spending of the wedding.

I-T department also conducted raids on service providers engaged for wedding of Janardhan Reddy's daughter in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
