Cyberabad Traffic Police took up a novel initiative to help cab commuters

HYDERABAD: In a first of its kind across the State, Cyberabad police took up a novel initiative to help cab commuters. People who are frustrated with the sudden cancellation of their already booked cabs for any reasons by the drivers, can now complain about it to the police and the cab driver will be fined RS 500.

The Cyberabad Traffic Police took to their Twitter and wrote, "Are you frustrated about the cab drivers cancelling rides based on the destination or other reasons like payment mode? Public can now raise a complaint with the vehicle number, date and time, location and screen shot of rejection."

According to the police, the cab drivers who cancelled the bookings or rides will be booked under Section 178 of MV Act which states, 'Refusal to ply a contract carriage on hire by a driver is an offence." The drivers will are liable to pay a fine of Rs 500.

The Cyberabad Traffic Police already booked three cab drivers under Section 178 of MV Act. The police have already issued challans amounting to Rs 500 through e-challans on these cab drivers.

DCP Vijay Kumar, Cyberabad Traffic Police, said to a daily, "The provision have been there for a long time. Citizens can now lodge a complaint with us via social media."

The tweet by Cyberabad Traffic Police had the netizens applauding the initiative who expressed their problems with cancellation of their cabs with the Police.
