Law has Done Its Duty: Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar On Disha Rape Accused Encounter Case

HYDERABAD: All four accused arrested in connection with the rape-and-murder of a 26-year-old woman veterinarian in Hyderabad were killed in an encounter with the police on Friday morning, the Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar said. "Law has done its duty," he said while speaking at a press meet held right at the encounter site near Chatanpally at Shamshabad. Incidentally this was the same place where the victim was set afire and left near the under bridge close by.

Addressing the media after the judicial procedures (panchanama) and formalities were completed, VC Sajjanar said that after getting custody of the accused on December 2nd , they had started investigation and questioning of the four accused, Mohhammad Arif, C Chennakesahavulu, Jollu Naveen and Jollu Siva who belonged to Makthal mandal in Narayanpet district.

During the process they questioned the accused about the victims mobile and other items which were still missing. The accused had told them their location and as part of the scene reconstruction, they were brought to Chatanpally.He said that ten policeman had accompanied the accused to the spot.

But as they were near the location the accused Mohammed Arif and Chennakesavulu snatched the weapons and opened fire at them policeman. The other two accused Jollu Siva and Jollu Naveen had become quite aggressive and both of them hurled stones and attacked the police with sticks. In the process, the police had to fire at the accused and shoot them down in self-defence. The whole incident was over in five to 10 minutes and it happened around 5:30 am to 6 am in the morning hours, he said.

As per his statement, two policemen including a sub-inspector Venkateswarulu from Makthal and a police constable were injured in the cross fire by the accused at scene reconstruction site. They were sent to the hospital for treatment for grievous injuries.

The victim's cell phone, watch and power bank, were also recovered from the spot, Sajjanar said.The CP also mentioned that all the accused were majors and none of them were minors as mentioned in some reports which were false.

He also asked the media to first clarify the facts first and not post false news. He also asked them to respect the privacy of the victims family and not disturb the policeman while they were on duty and during interrogation period.He also warned that strict action would be taken if any false or negative news was posted either in the print or electronic media.

Sajjanar said that the Telangana police were also examining if the accused were involved in any other cases in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka as there were many cases of missing woman and burnt bodies found there.

At the encounter site the bodies of Mohhammad Arif and Chennakesavulu were seen with pistols which were allegedly snatched from the police. Their bodies were shifted to Mahaboobnagar Government Hospital for post mortem.

It is reported that the bodies would be handed over to the families and sent to the cremation grounds directly. Their cremation would be conducted before evening itself.

Heavy security has deployed at the village of Gudigandla where the four accused belonged,to avoid any sort of untoward incidents. Police security was also deployed at Disha’s residence at Nakshathra Villas in Shamshabad.
