HYDERABAD: Minister for Municipal Administration KT Rama Rao, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar have inaugurated Hi-tech City-Rayadurgam Metro Corridor on Friday. Along with ministers, Chief Secretary SK Joshi, Principal Secretary for Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar and Metro Rail Managing Director NVS Reddy and other officials took part in the flagging-off ceremony.

After the inauguration, the ministers and officials traveled in the metro train up to Rayadurgam stop, which is adjacent to Mind Space IT hub. Later, the ministers left for inauguration of Bull statue in Nanakram Guda of Financial District.

However, it is a good news for the commuters of Hyderabad as the much awaited shortest route with more passenger traffic was inaugurated today. Earlier, test runs were conducted and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) authorities have given the safety clearance to start operations on this route.

In a message posted earlier on the HMRL Twitter handle, Managing Director NVS Reddy said, "Hitec city-Raidurg metro stretch (1.5 km) is ready and Commission of Railway Safety (CMRS) inspection will be done soon. After this safety clearance, the stretch will be inaugurated by Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) KT Rama Rao and Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar in the morning of November 29."

"Inauguration of Hitec city- Raidurg metro stretch will give major relief to a large number of employees working in this dense Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enable Services (ITES) area," he added.

IT Minister KT Rama also tweeted the good news that the HyderabadMetro has completed a successful two-year run and that the Hitec City-Raidurg route would be operational from November 29th.

Earlier this week, the metro authorities said that they would soon begin trial runs on Corridor II on the 10-km stretch between Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) via Parade Grounds.

The elevated metro rail project here is the country's second largest metro rail network with 56 km in operation, next only to Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the 30-km stretch between Miyapur and Nagole out of the 72-km-long elevated Hyderabad metro rail project in November 2017.

In September 2018, another 16-km stretch between Ameerpet and L B Nagar was commissioned.

On March 20 this year, a 10-km stretch between Ameerpet and Hi-Tec City was inaugurated, covering 56 km out of the 72-km project.

Nearly four lakh passengers commute by the metro daily. It has carried 12.5 crore passengers in the last two years, the HMRL official said
