Hyderabadi Filmmaker’s Short Film Bags Top Honours At KIFF 2019

City's filmmaker Shravan Katikaneni had won Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for the Best Indian Short Film at a recently held Kolkata International Film Festival 2019 (KIFF).

Written and directed by Shravan, Summer Rhapsody is a 20-min short film which captures Telangana's rural lifestyle. Shravan is on cloud nine after making Telangana proud by bagging top honours for his short film.

According to sources, there were almost 19 short films from across the country which were nominated for this category and Telangana had won the first prize in it.

Shravan had also won prize money of Rs 5 lakh, which was awarded to him by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee.

Talking about the film, Shravan a resident of Marredpally, mentioned that he always wanted capture the rural lifestyle of Telangana. He also mentioned that, the best thing among many memories of the time that he spent in rural Telangana is the sight of kids sitting under the trees while their mothers worked in the fields. He said that he wanted to incorporate that sights and sound of that  into his film.

Speaking to National daily, he said film is a visual medium and he preferred communicating the message visually rather than through dialogue. Shravan is now working on another film with the prize money he won at KIFF 2019. He said he is working on the film and will share the details shortly.
