KCR Sacks 48,000 RTC Workers Over TSRTC Strike

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government sacked over 48,000 employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) on Sunday for participating in an indefinite strike from midnight on Friday, October 4, and refused to end their protest even after the government gave a deadline till 6 pm on Saturday.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao termed TSRTC's indefinite strike as an "unpardonable crime". More than 50,000 drivers, conductors, mechanics, and supervisors went on strike, including managers, divisional managers, regional managers, and executive directors at 29 depots in the Greater Hyderabad Zone are participating in this strike, with a list of 26 demands including the merger of the corporation with the government and with this 3,850 buses operating in the city came to a halt.

KCR expressed his anger towards the employees and added that TSRTC had suffered a huge loss of Rs. 1,200 crore and its debt burden had increased up to Rs. 5,000 crore with this strike.

CM KCR made it clear to the unions that TRS government will not agree for the merger of the RTC with the government, CM KCR added that they will not have any discussion with RTC JAC (Joint Action Committee leaders).

CM KCR orders the RTC Officers to restore RTC operations within 15 days.

TSRTC has only 1,200 employees working now and CM KCR made an announcement that the government will soon start the recruitment process for filling the vacancies.

Passengers who planned to leave for their home town ahead of Dasra festival celebrations were affected by the disruption of buses on Friday night. People who planned to visit Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati, Vizag and Kakinada areas of AP, as well as Bangalore, Mumbai, Shirdi, Telangana, Adilabad, and Nizamabad are worst affected by this strike.

Alternate Buses Arranged

The RTC and RTA officials have hired 2,500 buses for the festival rush, they have taken recruit temporary staff for depots during the TSRTC strike period. 4,114 buses will be run under the permission of state government and brought under the RTC

TSRTC decided to recruit temporary drivers and conductors who have a heavy driving license with at least 18 months of seniority and tenth-grade qualification under the supervision of Motor Vehicle Inspector said Pandurang Naik, Commissioner of Transport, Hyderabad.

RTC executive director Venkateshwar said that RTC is also trying to operate 250 taxi buses. In addition to the 1.4 lakh vehicles in the city, they have granted permission for transportation of 50 thousand autos from various districts to the outskirts of the city.

Removed the Restrictions Over the Private Transportation Vehicles

TSRTC has temporarily removed the restriction over transportation of more than 50 thousand Seven Seater autos in the city. Metro trains will run every 3 minutes in view of the RTC strike.
