225 athletes across 15 disciplines from India will be sent for Commonwealth Games this year

New Delhi: The Indian contingent has grown and official size for this year's Commonwealth Games being held in Australia will be 225 athletes across 15 disciplines. Earlier in 2014, we had sent 215 athletes for Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The Games will be held from April 4 to 15 in Gold Coast.

With the increase in the number of quota places for Indian sportspersons in two disciplines - boxing and athletics - there has been a raise in the number of participants from India this year.

Over 70 nations will come together to compete at the 21st Commonwealth Games being held in Australia. This year’s Games will set a record in the number of para-athletes and medal events offered. Up to 300 para-athletes will be able to compete. Additionally, 38 medals across seven disciplines will be up for grabs.

The Commonwealth Games have been held since 1930, being open to athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations, including countries such as Australia, Canada, India and the United Kingdom. While there are only 52 countries in the Commonwealth of Nations, 70 countries compete in the Commonwealth Games.
