High Court slams anti-crop loan waiver petition

In a significant decision, the AP High Court struck down a PIL that asked the court to direct the Andhra Pradesh government not to go in for crop loan waiver.

Expressing anger at the petitioner, the court said what was wrong in waiving crop loans taken by the poor farmers. It said several farmers were ending their lives due to mounting debt burden. Severely reprimanding the petitioner, it said the taxation was common for both the rich and the poor. If the croploans were waived poor and hapless farmers would be benefited, it opined.
