Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday directed private medical colleges to fill the management quota B Category seats even by second counseling if required and ruled that C category NRI seats in both the Telugu states cannot exceed the limit fixed by the Supreme Court.
The division bench comprised of Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice Anis who were hearing a petition filed by aggrieved students.
They rued that private medical colleges are reluctant to fill the B category seats as they have to allot them under government supervision at Rs 11 lakh per year and are subverting the process to convert these seats into C category to sell them to NRI students between Rs 33 lakh to Rs 55 lakh.
The petitioners contended that when second counselling is done for the A category the same method should be adopted for the B category seats too.
Instead, the governments are permitting the managements to convert the B category seats, which are to be filled on the basis of performance of candidates in NEET, into C category by adopting subterfuge allowing allottees to report to college much after admission process is over.
