Heavy rains continue to lash parts of AP

Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Andhra Pradesh today throwing normal life out of gear in the State, where a woman died in wall collapse. Warangal district bore the brunt of the downpour (it recorded 51 mm rainfall yesterday) as low-lying areas, several roads and habitations were inundated.

Rivulets and other water bodies were in spate in the district due to the rains over the last few days. Two persons were saved by local residents at Bhoopalpally when they were washed away in a rivulet, a report from Warangal said.
Vehicular traffic came to a standstill as water was flowing over the highway at Kataskshapur. In the forest area of Eturunagaram and Kothaguda, 50 villages were cut off from the rest of the district.
An old woman died at Sayampet when a wall collapsed, official sources said. At Gundrathimadugu village, railway tracks were washed away yesterday, forcing the railway authorities to halt the trains at different places. Railway engineering personnel soon restored the track partially.
South Central Railway, which cancelled several trains last night due to the rains, restored the services today. Two special trains will be run between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam to clear the extra rush of passengers, it said in a release. After a day of heavy rains, the Andhra Pradesh capital witnessed dry weather yesterday. Yesterday's rain resulted in water-logging at several places across the city.
